More informationInternet Speed and Transfer RatesA dial-up account has a maximum speed of up to 53.3 kb/sec. A broadband account download/upload may be up to 256/256 kbps or say up to 1500/384 kbps. The Transfer Rate is a conversion from bits to Bytes, there are 8 bits to a Byte. For communication data 1000 bits = 1kb. We will actually be converting kilobits to kilobytes. The reason for this conversion is the download window will show how fast the file downloaded in kilobytes per second.
Chart
The "/" means divided by. Formula: kilobits / 8 = kilobytes orkb / 8 = kB Calculate the Maximum Transfer Rate based on the "up to" package an Internet Service Provider will advertise. Can use the figures from the Chart to get a feel for it. Please make use of Speed Test Sites links to test your Internet speed. Most speed test sites will give you both kb and kB.
